Pastor Michael, an interim pastor serving St. Paul's for the second time, is a native of Hanover and was baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, York Street, March 3, 1946. Pastor Michael was graduated from Susquehanna University in 1968 and from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 1972 and then ordained on June 11, 1972, by the then Lutheran Church in America, Central Pennsylvania Synod. He has served congregations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York. He retired from Trinity Lutheran Church, Staten Island, NY, in 2011 and became Pastor Emeritus of that congregation on his 50th Anniversary of Ordination. In retirement, he has served as interim pastor in the Florida Bahama and Lower Susquehanna Synods. Pastor Michael is the father of two sons, grandfather of four, as well as a great-grandfather. He is married to Bonnie Heather McCourt, a Staten Island native, who currently works at The Majestic Theater.
If I have one goal for us here, it is simply to encourage those who are the baptized of St. Paul’s to take a moment and consider that joining with the Risen Lord in Word and Sacrament on Sunday, if at all able, is a minimal commitment we all have made to our Heavenly Father. To not be here, if we are able, is, in the modern vernacular “to ghost,” the Risen Christ and deny our voice and witness to our sisters and brothers in Christ. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will gather us in ever greater and more responsible ways to the heart of ministry in our Sunday assembly. Jesus will be there as promised. How about us?
