"Your people shall be my people."
Ruth 1:16 Ruth’s Harvest Littlestown is a non-profit organization that provides approximately 150 elementary students in the Littlestown School District with a backpack of food on the weekends. We are committed to helping students have access to enough food to not go hungry over the weekend. In some cases, we know the only meals students are receiving are the breakfast and lunch which are served at school, so this is our way of ensuring food is available to them for weekend meals. Students who qualify for reduced or free lunches with the school district are eligible for this program. Backpacks of shelf stable foods and an occasional fresh item are provided to students on Friday and backpacks are returned on Monday so they can be refilled for the following Friday. Ruth’s Harvest is supported through the generosity of the community and specifically several Littlestown churches. The program is named after Ruth, a woman of the Bible known for gleaning the barley and wheat fields after the harvest in order to support herself and her mother-in-law, Naomi. Food donations can be dropped off Tuesday-Friday from 9 am -1 pm. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 53 West King Street in Littlestown. Monetary donations can be mailed to Sharri Plattenburg, Treasurer, c/o Ruth’s Harvest, 780 Kindig Rd, Littlestown, PA 17340. |
